Why some job boards don’t work
Common perception: they are passive and expensive. Posting a job on several boards; waiting hours or days is not the way to go. Also, many job boards ask a high price per job ad. Rates of 300 euro per job ads are common. Replacing only eight colleagues in a year will cost you already 2400 euro on a single board and the hiring process still has a long way to go.
When you want to hire a Food and Beverage manager, you may focus on the more niche job sites, instead of the broad places like LinkedIn or Indeed.
Why job boards are still essential
Candidates still search through Google and social media – after which they land on job boards- to find the next step in their career. A properly written job ad placed on the appropriate job board can yield numerous quality candidates in a short period. Some boards also focus on branding the employer (you) instead of branding themselves.
Having a positive image on your brand saves a big part in your recruitment budget. Of course, you do not build a glossy image overnight.
Points to keep in mind when recruiting on a board:
o Company presence: If your competitors are present and have a job posted, it indicates effectiveness.
o Pricing: Compare pricing, but also what the package includes.
o Usability: Consider the easiness of the board and try to avoid a dime in a dozen job board which is filled with banners and pop-ups. Go for a clean and crisp board.
o Opportunities for employer branding: post and pray is not the way to go anymore, you need more context, a better story towards your candidates. Check for companies who will brand you and convince candidates.
